“A limit has been crossed concerning the acceptability of the projects” V.Lavergne (architect)
He considers that architecture must meet the expectations of society. Through the philosophy of his eponymous architecture and urbanism firm, Vincent Lavergne wants to work in line with political, economic, social and environmental issues. Having first learned to be an assistant architect in a school of City of Paris, before joining Ensa Paris-La-Villette in the third year. Graduated in 2009, he founded, at that time, the Nadau Lavergne agency, with his friend Jérémy Nadau. Together, they are among the winners of the album of young architects and the prize list of young urban planners in 2012.
Four years later, his partner returns to Bordeaux, his hometown, and Vincent Lavergne decided to create the agency Vincent Lavergne Architecture Urbanisme (VL-AU). The latter, which now has about twenty employees, works to transform the city, including the imperatives of sustainable development. Heavy restructuring, constrained sites in dense environments, industrial reconversion… The Paris-based company works on many themes and specializes in wood construction and biosourced materials. A way to develop alternatives to concrete. Today, the agency designs projects in France and abroad and continues its development in Marseilles, Barcelona and Valencia. At the same time, Vincent Lavergne gives conferences around the world. He is also a member of the editorial board of the journal All urban and belongs to the network of French institutes abroad. Meet this jack-of-all-trades…
Batiactu: How is your agency doing and what is your view of the market?
Vincent Lavergne: The agency is doing well. I observe a profound change in the sector. Private players are driving the projects but are also weakened by the economic situation. As for the promoters, they garner more and more power. They have increased their skills and become more professional. Architects, for their part, work under emergency conditions and must respect extremely constrained budgets. Also, I note that a limit has been crossed concerning the acceptability of projects, often those concerning social housing.
