On the athletes’ village, Universeine unites the old and the modern
It will be the heart of the athletes’ village during the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. In Saint-Denis, at the foot of the future Olympic square and the bridge that will connect Ile-Saint-Denis to the left bank of the Seine, the future Universeine district is gradually taking shape. It must be said that time is now running out for this project, which started in June 2021: everything must be delivered by the end of 2023, so the countdown has begun.
Universeine brings together two of the five sectors of the athletes’ village managed by Solideo, sectors A and B. Nearly 125,000 to be built, on a former industrial wasteland. The buildings will accommodate 6,000 athletes and their companions during the Games, which will give way in the legacy phase to 3,000 inhabitants and 4,000 employees.
The project is being developed by Vinci Immobilier on 6.4ha of land acquired well before the discussions around the Olympics. The urban redevelopment of the plot had already begun, a first residential block, of 21,000m2, having been delivered in 2010. Four others are in progress.
