The more we build in wood, “the more we avoid CO2-emitting materials”, E.Macron
The import of processed wood, a “complete madness”
However, he recalled that in terms of independence, there was still a long way to go to get out of the current system which comes under the “complete madness”in his words. “We have one of the largest forests in Europe, but we exploit our wood badly. We import too much of it, especially wood elements processed elsewhere!” Hence his desire to “re-form” in order to “better predict production, treat the wood, exploit it, enhance it”. All while preserving biodiversity within the forests.
In terms of decarbonization of the construction sector, due in particular to the entry into force of RE2020, work is more advanced. “The more we build large wood construction projects, the more we will avoid CO2-emitting materials”, observes the Head of State, thus moving away from a more consensual discourse on the mix of materials. Finally, the Chairman cited the Mathis company as being a “model” of “French excellence” and the alliance between economic development and respect for the environment.
