The relocation of the courthouse would cause the city center of Marseille to lose 18.3 million euros a year – Le Journal des Entreprises
In February 2022, the Minister of Justice promised the construction of a 40,000 m² judicial city for 600 magistrates and civil servants by 2028, in Marseille. Today, the locations of this new judicial city are being studied and the courthouse could thus leave the city center of Marseille for Euroméditerranée. The Marseille Bar and the Aix-Marseille-Provence CCI contest this relocation and have thus carried out an impact study on the economic impact of the presence of courts in the city center. 1,780 businesses and seven out of ten lawyers are currently less than ten minutes’ walk from the courthouse and 7.4 million euros of expenditure on the purchase of catering is made each year for lunch break meals. Other expenses are also estimated at 10.9 million euros per year. The relocation of the Courthouse to another district would thus cause the city center to lose nearly 18.3 million euros per year.
