Waga Energy and Valtom join forces to produce biomethane in Clermont-Ferrand – Le Journal des Entreprises
Le Valtom, union in charge of the recovery and treatment of household waste in Puy-de-Dôme and northern Haute-Loire, the Grenoble start-up Waga Energy (160 employees; €19.2 million in turnover in 2022 ) are joining forces to produce biomethane on the non-hazardous waste storage site (ISDND) of Puy-Long, in Clermont-Ferrand. As part of a joint venture called “Valtom Énergie Biogaz”, Valtom and Waga Energy will build a purification unit on the site using Wagabox® technology, developed and patented by Waga Energy to recover gas from household waste under form of biomethane. This unit will also process biogas from the Vernéa methanisation plant, Valtom’s household waste recovery centre. This project represents an investment of 3.5 million euros, which will be jointly supported by Valtom and Waga Energy through their joint venture. Biomethane production will be injected directly into the gas network operated by GRDF. The WAGABOX® unit will supply up to 15 GWh of biomethane per year, equivalent to the consumption of more than 2,000 gas-heated households or around sixty buses running on BioNGV.
